In Memoriam

“I Will Not Be Dismissed”

Viola Ford Fletcher, the oldest known survivor of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, spent over a century carrying the memories of that tragic day. At 107, she testified before Congress, bearing witness to a crime long buried by silence. She passed peacefully on November 24, 2025, at the age of 111.

“I have lived through the massacre every day. Our country may forget this history, but I cannot. I will not.”

A Message From The Mayor

Monroe Nichols

“As a city, we have spent many years grappling with the horrific reality of the Tulsa Race Massacre, and acknowledging how the trauma endured by the Black community has impacted generations. Justice demands that we not only acknowledge harm, but take meaningful steps toward repairing it. Today marks the beginning of a new chapter for our city. This is not a one-day gesture. This is the start of sustained engagement, real resources, and shared responsibility as we work to advance repair and reconciliation for all who call Tulsa home.”

Honoring our Past, Building our Future

Greenwood Trust is a national model for reparative place-based investment.

We are building a future where survivors, descendants, and residents of historic Black Wall Street inherit opportunity, reclaim ownership, acquire assets, build generational wealth, and play a vital role at the forefront of Tulsa’s economic future.
